Meghalaya: Nongrim Hills Surge Late, Dismantle Ryntih FC in Season Finale Thriller
Shillong: In a dramatic conclusion to their OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 campaigns, Nongrim Hills SC staged a stunning comeback to overpower Ryntih FC with a 6-2 victory at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo on March 6th. The match, initially dominated by Ryntih, saw a complete turnaround in the latter stages, leaving spectators in awe.
The initial stages of the game saw Caldolan Kharmawphlang put Nongrim Hills ahead in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a well-timed run that caught Ryntih’s defense off guard. However, Ryntih responded with vigor, as Wanshanlang Dkhar in the 21st minute and Basuklang Bina in the 28th minute each found the net, overturning the deficit and giving Ryntih a surprising 2-1 lead. This marked a significant improvement for Ryntih, who had struggled to score in the first half throughout the season.
Despite their first-half resurgence, Ryntih’s momentum waned in the second half. The team, lacking substitutes, struggled with fatigue. Nongrim Hills, seizing the opportunity, launched a relentless offensive. Onyxson Buhroy leveled the score in the 66th minute, followed by a flurry of goals from Oresterwell Langshiang in the 71st and 78th minutes, Mebanshan Suting in the 74th minute, and Banshemphang Kurbah in the 85th minute. A missed penalty by Bankitboklang Nongrum proved to be a minor setback, as Nongrim Hills’ dominance prevailed.
The victory propelled Nongrim Hills to seventh place in the league standings, pushing Sawmer SC to eighth. Ryntih FC, already relegated to the bottom of the table, concluded their season with their 16th defeat. The match was further compounded for Ryntih when Maxy Warjri had to leave the field injured, leaving them with ten men.
Looking ahead, Laitkor SC and Nangkiew Irat SC are scheduled to clash at the SSA Stadium with an earlier kick-off time of 1:45 pm. Laitkor SC, who previously defeated Nangkiew Irat SC 2-0 on October 23rd, will be aiming to replicate their earlier success.
