Meghalaya: NPP Breaks Norms with All-Women Lineup for Lok Sabha Elections

Northeast Desk. 24th november: The National People’s Party (NPP) has broken political conventions by nominating an all-women slate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, in an unprecedented step. The party has formally announced Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, a cabinet minister and Laitumkhrah MLA, as its candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat. Agatha K Sangma, the longtime incumbent MP of Tura, has been given the party’s ticket for the Tura parliamentary seat.

The historic decision was announced by the State President of the NPP, Prestone Tynsong, at the party headquarters in Shillong on November 24.

Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh expressed her gratitude for the party’s trust in her candidacy and emphasized the need for more women to take center stage in the political arena. She highlighted the importance of bringing diverse perspectives and solutions to the forefront.

The ticket for the Tura Parliamentary Seat was given to Agatha K Sangma, the incumbent MP of Tura, showcasing the NPP’s commitment to promoting women in leadership roles. The move is seen as a significant step toward gender equality and inclusivity in Indian politics.
