Meghalaya Nurses Embark on Professional Journey in Japan

Northeast Desk, 5th July: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced that three additional nurses from Meghalaya have successfully embarked on their professional journey in Japan after completing Japanese language training under the Chief Minister Global Program. This initiative aims to provide employment opportunities and enhance professional skills for nurses from the state.

Expressing his happiness, Chief Minister Sangma took to the microblogging site X to extend his best wishes to the nurses. He stated, “Happy that three more nurses from Meghalaya namely, Lartang Shishalapyntngen, Sangma Luanda B, Mukhim Baniewkor have reached Japan under the Chief Minister Global Program. Wish them the very best.”

The selection of these nurses followed an Overseas Nursing Job Fair held last year, marking a significant milestone for twenty-seven nurses from Meghalaya who are now poised to begin their careers in Japan. They will be placed across various hospitals and care homes in the country.

The “Skills Meghalaya” scheme, administered by the Government of Meghalaya through the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), is sponsoring Rs 50,000 for each candidate. This financial support aims to facilitate the training and deployment of three hundred nurses in Japan in the coming years.

The Japanese language training, conducted by 10 Japanese teachers at NAVIS, has been pivotal in preparing the nurses for their roles abroad. Despite the challenges of learning a new language, the program has been deemed successful, providing the nurses with valuable skills and opportunities in the global healthcare sector.
