Meghalaya: Overloaded trucks banned in East Khasi Hills
Shillong: The East Khasi Hills District administration has imposed a strict prohibition on overloaded hay-laden trucks passing through the city, citing pressing safety risks and environmental challenges.
District Magistrate RM Kurbah announced the immediate enforcement of the ban under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The decision aims to tackle multiple hazards posed by these vehicles, including the risk of fire from potential contact with electrical wires, road littering caused by hay spillage, and disruptions to ongoing urban cleanliness initiatives.
The administration emphasized that these risks undermine public safety and the city’s environmental goals.
Violators of the order will face prosecution under Section 223 of the BNSS, highlighting the district’s resolve to maintain urban safety and cleanliness.
The ban takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice, signaling the administration’s urgent approach to mitigating these transportation-related threats.
Truck operators and transporters have been urged to comply with the new regulations to avoid legal consequences. The order underscores the district’s commitment to ensuring safer and cleaner urban environments for residents.
