Meghalaya Partners with UN-WFP to Enhance Food Security and Public Distribution System
Shillong: The Meghalaya Government has partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP) to bolster its Public Distribution System (PDS) and devise strategies for improved food security in the state.
This collaboration was formalized during a meeting in Shillong on November 18, attended by Coming One Ymbon, Minister in charge of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, and Elisabeth Faure, Country Director of UN-WFP.
Key Objectives and Focus Areas:
- Strengthening PDS:
- Addressing challenges in the existing PDS to ensure the efficient delivery of essential commodities.
- Enhancing transparency and accountability across the supply chain.
- Collaborative Roadmap for Food Security:
- Developing a roadmap aligning with Meghalaya’s vision for food security.
- Sharing best practices from other states and leveraging global insights from successful UN-WFP models in India.
