Meghalaya PHE Department Clarifies Progress and Challenges in Jal Jeevan Mission Implementation

Northeast Desk, 23th June: The Meghalaya Public Health Engineering (PHE) department on June 22 addressed concerns regarding the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme, dismissing claims of irregularities and emphasizing significant progress in providing drinking water supply to villages across the state.

Speaking to reporters, an official from the PHE department highlighted the strides made in delivering drinking water to villages, including those in Garo Hills. The official acknowledged challenges encountered during the implementation phase but assured that they are being actively resolved. They stated, “We have achieved significant progress in providing drinking water supply to villages across the state, including Garo Hills. However, ongoing projects are encountering various challenges which we are addressing.”

Regarding specific challenges such as land acquisition and objections to water sources, the official noted that field engineers are actively managing these issues to ensure smooth project execution. They clarified that delays in some projects were primarily due to climate and logistical factors but assured the public that these challenges will not result in project abandonment.

Addressing concerns about the timeline extension for project completion, the PHE official assured that every effort is being made to complete the JJM implementation process in every village. They urged the public to disregard unfounded assumptions and allegations, emphasizing the department’s commitment to transparent and effective implementation.

The clarification from the Meghalaya PHE department aims to reassure stakeholders about the ongoing efforts and challenges in ensuring safe drinking water access across rural areas, underscoring their dedication to resolving issues and achieving project goals.
