Meghalaya Police Arrest Two Interstate Drug Traffickers, Seize Heroin Worth ₹1.5 Crore

Northeast Desk, 17th May: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the East Khasi Hills district police arrested two interstate drug traffickers on May 16. The operation, led by the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the East Khasi Hills district police, resulted in the seizure of heroin worth ₹1.5 crore.

The successful operation was announced by Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) L. R. Bishnoi on social media platform X. “In a successful operation, 2 interstate drug traffickers were arrested with Heroin worth ₹1.5 Crores. This sends a powerful message: Meghalaya stands united against drugs! Let’s continue this fight for a #DrugsFreeMeghalaya!” DGP Bishnoi tweeted.

This significant bust underscores the Meghalaya police’s ongoing commitment to combating illegal drug activities throughout the state. The “Drugs Free Meghalaya” initiative has seen heightened vigilance and intensified efforts to dismantle drug smuggling networks.

The recent success follows a string of high-profile operations in the region. Over the past ten days, the East Jaintia Hills district alone reported the seizure of banned drugs valued at a staggering ₹15 crore. Among these, a notable operation saw police intercept heroin and marijuana worth ₹3.6 crore and apprehend three drug peddlers transporting the contraband by bus.

DGP Bishnoi praised the East Jaintia Hills Police for their exceptional dedication, commending their efforts in intercepting narcotics worth ₹15 crore in a short period. The back-to-back successes of Meghalaya’s law enforcement agencies highlight their unwavering resolve to eradicate the drug menace from the state.
