Meghalaya Police Grill Families of Accused in Honeymoon Murder Case; Probe Deepens into Shocking Conspiracy
Indore/Shillong: The gruesome murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was killed just 12 days after his wedding during a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya, continues to unfold as investigators probe deeper into the alleged conspiracy involving his wife and her close acquaintance.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Meghalaya spent hours on Wednesday questioning Sonam Raghuvanshi’s family at their residence in Govind Nagar Kharcha, Indore. Police interrogated the family for over two hours and also visited their Sunmica sheet business premises, quizzing staff members about Sonam’s behaviour—especially after her recent marriage on May 11.
The investigation focuses on a possible murder conspiracy involving Sonam and her alleged accomplice Raj Kushwaha, a Class 12 dropout who worked as an accountant in the Raghuvanshi family business. Police are looking into reports of a pre-marital relationship between the two and are now probing another angle involving an individual named Sanjay Verma, whose number may have been registered under Kushwaha’s name.
Following the interrogation of Sonam’s family, the SIT also questioned Chunni Devi, mother of Raj Kushwaha, at her Indore residence. Investigators are working to determine the roles of multiple individuals in the crime.
Raja Raghuvanshi, 29, went missing just three days into the honeymoon on May 20. His mutilated body was found in a gorge near a waterfall in Meghalaya’s Sohra area on June 2, sparking national attention. The brutality of the murder, allegedly disguised as a romantic getaway, has stunned both families and raised questions about a meticulously planned crime.
Sonam surrendered to police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8, while Kushwaha and three others — Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — were apprehended from different locations in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking to reporters, Govind Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s brother, said the police were investigating Sonam’s recent conduct. “We are ready to undergo any test, even narco-analysis. We have not committed any sin,” he said.
Raja’s family, seeking justice, has demanded narco-analysis for all members of Sonam’s family, alleging that more people might be involved in the murder plot than currently known.
As the investigation unfolds, the case has exposed a web of deceit and betrayal, highlighting the chilling reality that a newlywed honeymoon could end in tragedy — not by accident, but by design.
