Meghalaya: Police Recover Body Parts After Suspected Human Skull Found on Bivar Road in Shillong
Northeast Desk, 25th May: Following the discovery of a suspected human skull on Bivar Road in Shillong on May 22, police have recovered additional body parts from a nearby drain, intensifying the investigation into the identity and circumstances of the deceased.
The Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, reported that the skull was found lying adjacent to a roadside drain, prompting a comprehensive search operation. The search led to the discovery of decomposed lower limbs on May 23 and parts of the upper torso on May 24.
In a press release, Sal Rituraj Ravi, IPS Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, confirmed the ongoing investigation to locate the remaining body parts. The body is suspected to belong to a male, based on the apparel found with the remains. The recovered body parts have been sent to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for medical examination.
“On 23.05.2024, the decomposed lower limbs were found by the search team inside the drain near Bivar Road. Further, on 24.05.2024, the search team recovered parts of the upper torso from the drain after a prolonged search. Further search is still underway. The recovered body parts have been sent to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, for medical examination. The dead body is suspected to be of a male person based on the apparel found on the remains of the body,” stated the press release.
The police have registered a case at Sadar Police Station, documented as Sadar PS Case No. 160(05)2024 under Section 302 of the IPC, and efforts are being made to identify the victim. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
