Meghalaya Power Minister Confident Umiam Dam Rehabilitation Will Meet Deadline

Northeast Desk, 7th June: Meghalaya Power Minister AT Mondal announced on June 6 that the rehabilitation of the Umiam dam and the retrofitting of the bridge are on track for completion by early August. Expressing confidence, Mondal stated, “We are working diligently and are very confident that the project will be finished either by July or the first week of August.”

To facilitate the repair work while minimizing traffic disruptions, vehicles will be allowed to pass through the bridge in a zigzag manner. “We are working to allow vehicles to pass in a zigzag way so that we can better complete the work,” Mondal explained.

Mondal assured that traffic flow remains unhindered and no significant issues have been reported. The rehabilitation project is being reviewed weekly to ensure it stays on schedule.

The Umiam dam and bridge renovation projects are a priority for the state government, as they are vital for ensuring a reliable water supply and maintaining critical transportation links.
