Meghalaya Principal Secretary Syed Md. A. Razi Passes Away in Uzbekistan
Guwahati, Assam – In a tragic development, Syed Md. A. Razi, the Principal Secretary in-charge of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Public Works Department (PWD) for the state of Meghalaya, has reportedly passed away in Uzbekistan.
Officials confirmed the news on Tuesday, stating that Mr. Razi was found deceased in his hotel room during a personal trip to the Central Asian country.
Mr. Razi, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer who had been on deputation to Meghalaya since 2021, had been in Bukhara city, Uzbekistan, since April 4th. Initial reports suggest that his untimely demise may have been due to cardiac arrest.
According to a senior government official, concern arose on Monday morning when Mr. Razi did not answer his phone calls. Subsequently, hotel staff in Bukhara were prompted to open his room, where they discovered his body.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma had already expressed his condolences on Monday upon receiving news of Mr. Razi’s death. Speaking to PTI, Chief Minister Sangma further stated that the necessary formalities are currently being carried out and that Mr. Razi’s wife is presently traveling to Bukhara.
In his earlier condolence message, Chief Minister Sangma described the late Principal Secretary as a dedicated officer and a warm individual who profoundly impacted many lives. He lauded Mr. Razi’s exceptional efficiency and unwavering commitment across all the departments he oversaw, noting his inspiring sense of ownership in every task he undertook.
