Speaking after a conference at the Meghalaya Police Headquarters, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, DGP Nongrang emphasized that addressing these issues was a primary focus of the meeting.

“We discussed measures to tackle the rising crimes against women and children, as well as the growing challenge of cybercrime,” stated Nongrang. She underscored the importance of creating a dedicated cyber wing within the police force to effectively combat cyber offenses, noting the government’s support and commitment to establishing this new unit.

Regarding the implementation of three new criminal laws nationwide, Nongrang mentioned that the Meghalaya Police had already conducted multiple training sessions to prepare for the new legal framework. She highlighted ongoing discussions with the Home Ministry and other states to ensure the adoption of best practices in implementing these laws.

“We recently held a panel discussion to explore various aspects of the new laws and their implications,” added Nongrang, emphasizing the collaborative efforts underway to streamline their enforcement.

The developments indicate a proactive approach by the Meghalaya Police in addressing emerging challenges while prioritizing the safety and security of vulnerable groups in the state.
