Meghalaya Rolls Out Digital Tracking for Tourists

Shillong – In a significant move to bolster security and streamline visitor management, the Meghalaya Tourism Department has unveiled a new, mandatory digital monitoring system for all accommodation providers across the state. This initiative, effective immediately, requires hotels, guesthouses, homestays, bed and breakfast establishments, lodges, and inns to register online and submit daily guest data.

The Director of Tourism, in an announcement made earlier today, stated that the comprehensive platform will capture crucial details such as arrival and departure times, visitor counts, gender breakdowns, and geographical origins, whether by Indian state or international country. Property owners are also now mandated to upload scanned copies of identity documents, visas, and C-forms for all guests, a stark departure from the erstwhile paper-based system. This real-time data collection aims to create a centralised repository of tourist movement within Meghalaya.

Furthermore, under the new framework, all accommodation operators are now required to secure No Objection Certificates from both the District Administration offices and local police departments prior to commencing or continuing their operations. This pre-requisite underscores the heightened emphasis on security compliance.

To facilitate a smooth transition, the Tourism Department has developed multiple user-friendly access points for the registration system. Property owners can register via the dedicated web portal at app.meghalayatourism.in/provider, or conveniently utilise the mobile applications available for both Android and iOS devices on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, respectively. Detailed user guides have also been made accessible through Google Drive to assist operators through every step of the registration process. Officials have stressed that immediate compliance from all existing accommodation providers is expected, highlighting the system’s role in aiding security agencies to monitor visitor patterns across Meghalaya’s popular destinations.
