Meghalaya: Rs 1241 Crore Sanctioned for Phulbari-Tura Road Enhancement

Northeast Desk, 10th December: The Union Government has approved Rs 1241 crore for the expansion and improvement of the Phulbari-Tura section on National Highway 127B, converting it into a two-lane road with paved shoulders.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced this major project, part of the North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement under JICA ODA Loan Phase-VII.

The project, which spans 63.224 kilometers overall, is split into Packages 1 and 2. The goal of this road infrastructure, according to Nitin Gadkari, is to improve connection between Meghalaya and Assam while serving traffic from West Bengal and the border with Bhutan.

The improved road will facilitate smoother access to Tura and other parts of Meghalaya via NH-217.

The completion of the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, integrated with Dalu LCS through this road project, is expected to establish a crucial North-South logistics corridor for Meghalaya, contributing to the overall development of the North East region and fostering increased cross-border traffic between India and Bangladesh.
