Meghalaya: Sawmer SC Seals 6-0 Victory Over Ryntih FC, Secures Top-Tier Status for Next Season

Shillong: Sawmer SC ended their OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024 campaign on a high, securing a dominant 6-0 victory over bottom-placed Ryntih FC at the SSA Stadium, Polo, on February 26.

All six goals came in the second half, with Bickyson Kharkongor netting two (49’ and 64’), Aibanraplang Dohling adding another (52’), followed by goals from Rheadolf Nongneng Daloi (72’), Orestar Sad (78’), and Mebanjop Warjri (89’).

The win ensured Sawmer SC’s safety in the top flight for another season, relegating Ryntih FC and Nongthymmai SC, who both remain in the relegation zone. With this result, Sawmer climbed to seventh place in the standings, tied on 18 points with Nongrim Hills SC, but with a superior head-to-head record. Nongrim Hills, however, still have two matches remaining.

After a goalless first half, Sawmer came out strong in the second half. Bickyson opened the scoring early, with a low shot past Ryntih goalkeeper Derick Khongsit. Minutes later, Aibanraplang capitalized on a rebound after Khongsit spilled a cross. Bickyson scored again with a stunning left-footer, while Rheadolf converted a pass from Bickyson to make it 4-0. Orestar scored a fifth, following another rebound from Khongsit, and the final goal came from Mebanjop, whose attempt from the right flank unintentionally ended in the net after deflecting off a Ryntih player.

With five wins, three draws, and ten defeats, Sawmer SC secured a solid finish in the league. This victory was only their second clean sheet of the season.

Nongrim Hills will face Nangkiew Irat SC today at 3 pm in the final match of the round.
