Meghalaya Seeks Postponement of CUET 2025 Amid Test Centre Verification
Shillong: The Meghalaya government has formally requested a deferment of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2025 examination dates. This appeal comes as the state works to finalize the verification and preparation of additional examination centres across Meghalaya.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma conveyed this request in a letter dated May 12 to the National Testing Agency (NTA). Minister Sangma highlighted that over 200 new computer nodes have been identified within the state to bolster the capacity for conducting the CUET examinations smoothly.
According to the minister’s communication, the list of these prospective examination venues has already been shared with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). TCS is the designated agency responsible for the crucial task of inspecting and verifying the suitability of these centres.
Minister Sangma’s letter follows a prior communication from Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on May 11, where initial concerns regarding the allocation of examination centres within the state were raised with the NTA.
“TCS has scheduled physical inspections of the identified locations, a process expected to take a few days,” Minister Sangma informed the NTA Director General Pradeep Singh Kharola. “In light of this, I kindly request that the CUET (UG) 2025 examination dates for Meghalaya be deferred until the additional centres are verified and ready for allocation.”
The core objective behind this request, as emphasized by Minister Sangma, is to ensure that all aspiring candidates from Meghalaya are afforded the opportunity to undertake their CUET examinations within the state itself. This would effectively mitigate the significant challenges associated with long-distance travel to examination centres located outside Meghalaya.
In his concluding remarks, Minister Sangma stated, “We deeply value the cooperation and timely support extended by NTA in addressing the concerns of students from Meghalaya, and we look forward to your continued assistance in this regard.”
The Meghalaya government has reiterated its commitment to providing comprehensive support in identifying and facilitating examination centres that are well-equipped with the necessary computer infrastructure. This proactive measure aims to comfortably accommodate all students from Meghalaya who are set to appear for the nationwide university entrance examination.
