Meghalaya Sets the Stage for Ed Sheeran’s Shillong Concert, Minister Highlights Economic Boost
Shillong: With global music sensation Ed Sheeran set to perform in Shillong on February 12, Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has praised the state’s pioneering role in leveraging live concerts to boost the local economy.
Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call for greater investment in concert infrastructure and skill development, Lyngdoh highlighted Meghalaya’s early adoption of this trend, dating back to the early 2000s.
He emphasized that large-scale music events not only attract tourism but also create employment opportunities and contribute to the state’s cultural vibrancy.
Preparations for the highly anticipated concert are progressing smoothly, with authorities ensuring seamless arrangements for the estimated 27,000 attendees.
A key meeting between officials from ticketing platform Book My Show and the district administration was held to finalize logistics and crowd management strategies.
Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran has already commenced his six-city India tour, kicking off with a high-energy performance in Pune on January 30. The British singer-songwriter, wearing a custom “Pune” t-shirt, expressed excitement about expanding his tour beyond Mumbai, where he performed during his previous visits to India.
As Shillong gears up to host the Grammy-winning artist, the event is expected to further solidify the city’s reputation as a premier destination for global music acts.
