Northeast Desk, 20th March: In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the Shillong IED blast case, the Meghalaya police have apprehended seven individuals, including the main suspect, from Mairang on Monday, March 19.

Led by police teams from Ri-Bhoi and Mairang, a joint operation resulted in the arrest of the main suspect believed to have played a pivotal role in the March 9 IED bomb blast.

The main suspect, identified as 21-year-old Namphyrnai Lyngdoh Peinlang from Peinlang village, was apprehended in Mairang, Eastern West Khasi Hills, and subsequently transported to Shillong for further interrogation.

Investigations are underway to uncover potential connections between the arrested individuals and the banned outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), shedding light on the motive behind the explosion.

The arrest marks a significant advancement in the investigation of the explosion that rocked Them Mawlong in Shillong city two days prior. The blast, originating from a garbage container, had sparked widespread concern and unrest in the city.

Earlier in the investigation, on March 11, two suspects were taken into custody. Among them is Tarson Lymba, a 58-year-old leader of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), apprehended from Dawki. The other suspect, Ebakordor Nongpluh, aged 26 and a resident of the Malki area in Shillong, was also detained as part of the ongoing probe.

As the investigation progresses, authorities continue to pursue leads and gather evidence to ensure justice is served in the aftermath of the devastating blast.
