Meghalaya: Severe Flash Floods and Landslides Disrupt Traffic on NH-06

Northeast Desk, 30th May: Commuters on National Highway 06 (NH-06) are experiencing major disruptions due to severe flash floods and landslides. According to the East Jaintia Hills Police, significant road damage at Lumshnong has halted heavy vehicle traffic until repairs can be completed to ensure safety.

In response to the ongoing rainfall and strong winds brought by Cyclone Remal, the Meghalaya government has issued public advisories. The Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, announced that landslides and waterlogging have blocked various segments of NH-06 and other roads.

The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to carry sufficient food and water if travel is essential. Travelers are urged to follow traffic regulations, stay in their lanes, avoid parking under trees, and remain inside their vehicles during traffic jams to protect themselves from thunderstorms and lightning.
