Meghalaya: Shillong Gears Up for Historic Football Tournament as Durand Cup Trophies Arrive

Northeast Desk, 19th July: In a momentous occasion, the three trophies of the 133rd Indian Oil Durand Cup arrived in Shillong on July 18, marking the city’s debut as a host for the prestigious football tournament. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma flagged off a grand roadshow from U Soso Tham Auditorium, showcasing the coveted trophies across the city.

The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, Air Marshal SP Dharkar, and Lt Gen Sanjay Malik. The trophies were later displayed at a grand ceremony at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, where Chief Minister Sangma lauded the efforts of the Durand Cup Organising Committee for bringing this historic moment to the state. With the city readying to host the tournament, Shillong is poised to make its mark on the country’s football landscape.
