Meghalaya: Shillong Lajong FC Dominate Sreenidi Deccan FC with 4-0 Victory in I-League
Shillong: Shillong Lajong FC delivered a commanding performance against Sreenidi Deccan FC, securing a 4-0 victory in their I-League clash at the SSA Stadium in Shillong on February 14. The win reinforced Lajong’s reputation as the league’s most prolific attacking side, while Sreenidi’s recent resurgence came to a crashing halt.
Marcos Rudwere opened the scoring early in the 4th minute with a clinical penalty, setting the tone for Lajong’s dominance. Despite Sreenidi controlling possession for much of the first half, they struggled to create clear-cut chances in the final third. The home side, on the other hand, relied on counter-attacks and set pieces to unsettle their opponents.
The turning point came in the 40th minute when Lajong capitalized on a defensive lapse. A long ball from the back found Phrangki Buam inside the box, prompting Sreenidi goalkeeper Aryan Lamba to commit a foul. The referee awarded a penalty, and Rudwere converted with ease to give Lajong the lead at halftime.
In the second half, Sreenidi missed a golden opportunity when an unmarked Daniel Gonçalves headed wide from a corner in the 70th minute. However, just moments later, another corner saw Gonçalves nodding the ball into Rudwere’s path, who smashed it home from close range to double the lead.
Lajong continued their relentless attack, with Kenstar Kharshong adding a third goal in the 88th minute through a glancing header from yet another corner. The misery for Sreenidi was compounded in injury time when they conceded another penalty. Renan Paulino stepped up and calmly slotted it in, sealing an emphatic 4-0 victory.
This result marked a second heavy defeat for Sreenidi against Lajong this season, having now conceded nine goals in two meetings. Meanwhile, Lajong’s attacking prowess remains a defining feature of their campaign, solidifying their position as serious contenders in the I-League.
