Meghalaya: Shillong Singer Lamphang Syiemlieh Admits to Online Identity Fraud
Shillong: Renowned Shillong-based singer Lamphang Syiemlieh has publicly confessed to creating fake social media profiles using stolen photographs to engage in online relationships with multiple men.
In a detailed statement shared on social media, Syiemlieh admitted to operating fake accounts under the names “audreyas962” and “Lakysha A” on Facebook, using photographs taken without consent from a woman’s social media profiles. The singer revealed that for over 18 months, he had contacted numerous men, sending sexually explicit messages while impersonating someone else.
“I have contacted countless men, sending them sexually explicit messages, for the last year and a half,” Syiemlieh wrote in his confession. “I had consciously and deliberately stolen and abused this woman’s identity for my own sexual interests and gratification.”
Local sources indicate that relatives had previously confronted Syiemlieh about his actions before his public admission. In his statement, he disclosed that he had been involved in multiple romantic and sexual online relationships under false identities and had also targeted other women in the past for similar deceptive activities.
The shocking revelation has sparked concern within Shillong’s arts community, with discussions emerging around digital identity theft and online safety.
Syiemlieh concluded his statement by saying, “I take full responsibility for my actions,” acknowledging the impact of his misconduct. However, the controversy has raised ethical and legal questions, leaving many to wonder about potential consequences for his actions.
