Meghalaya: Shillong Traffic Police Collects Rs 6,78,000 in Fines During Week-long Crackdown
Northeast Desk, 30th April: In a concerted effort to enhance road safety and curb traffic violations, the Shillong Traffic Police conducted a rigorous week-long scrutiny from April 22 to 28. As a result of this intensive operation, hefty fines totaling Rs 6,78,000 were collected, according to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi.
Highlighting the scope of violations uncovered during the period, SP Rituraj Ravi pointed out infractions ranging from driving under the influence of alcohol to illegal modifications of vehicle exhaust pipes.
During the specified timeframe, a total of 684 violations were identified, encompassing offenses such as driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal modifications to exhaust pipes. The substantial fine collection underscores the seriousness with which traffic violations are being addressed in the region.
Emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and strict adherence to traffic laws, the Shillong Traffic Police urged citizens to exercise caution on the roads. SP Rituraj Ravi affirmed that such special drives would be conducted regularly, supplementing routine checks to ensure safety on the roads.
