Meghalaya SSA Teachers to Decide on Salary Enhancement Proposal by September 21
Northeast Desk, 14th September: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) is set to make a unanimous decision on the state government’s proposal to enhance the salaries of over 12,000 Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers on September 21. The decision will be finalized during the association’s upcoming general executive council meeting, according to MSSASA president, Aristotle C. Rymbai.
Speaking to reporters, Rymbai revealed that he recently met with SSA State Project Director Swapnil Tembe, who informed him that the education department had temporarily put the salary enhancement proposal on hold. Tembe further shared that the department is considering taking the matter of regularizing teacher salaries to the Cabinet for approval.
This comes in the wake of a prolonged sit-in protest by SSA non-teaching staff, which lasted for 15 days, causing disruptions in the disbursement of salaries and the implementation of key SSA initiatives. On August 14, Tembe urged the non-teaching staff to return to work, emphasizing that the Rationalisation Committee is actively addressing the issue. He stressed the importance of resuming duties to ensure the continuation of critical SSA programs, including the Right to Education (RTE) interventions, uniform grants, and library fund distribution.
The upcoming MSSASA meeting will be crucial in determining the next steps for the association, as thousands of teachers await clarity on their financial future amidst ongoing deliberations with the state government.
