Meghalaya Surgeon Accused of Medical Negligence in Botched Cesarean Section

Northeast Desk, 19th September: A surgeon in Meghalaya has come under fire for alleged medical negligence after reportedly leaving a bandage inside a patient’s abdomen during a cesarean section at Jengjal Subdivisional Hospital in West Garo Hills. The incident has prompted the A’chik State People’s Front (ASPF) to call for a thorough investigation.

The patient, Mensila N Marak from Lower Nengsa in North Garo Hills, underwent the procedure on January 29 but has since experienced severe pain and discomfort. The alleged oversight by Dr. Suzie Paul Francis, the surgeon responsible for the procedure, has raised concerns about her health.

On September 18, ASPF general secretary Bernita Marak submitted a memorandum to Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, urging immediate action and demanding accountability. The organisation highlighted the need for stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
