Meghalaya: Thieves Target Unitarian Church in Shillong, Highlighting Security Concerns
Shillong: A brazen theft incident has shaken the Unitarian Church in Shillong’s Madan Laban, Meghalaya, raising concerns about the safety and security of religious institutions in the state.
On November 28, thieves broke into the church premises, stealing valuable items and vandalizing the church library.
The stolen items include four large brass flower pots and two chalices from both the old and new church buildings on the same campus. The incident has left church members and the public in a state of shock and dismay. Chairman of the Church, LMB Rani, expressed her shock, stating that even places of worship are no longer spared.
Church and local community leaders have urged the state government to take immediate action to ensure the security of religious institutions in Meghalaya. An investigation into the incident has been launched, and further details are awaited. The incident serves as a wake-up call for the authorities to review and strengthen the security measures in place to protect religious institutions and places of worship.
