Meghalaya TMC Condemns Karnataka Church Attack

Guwahati: Meghalaya Trinamool Congress (TMC) vice president and Rangsakona MLA Zenith M Sangma condemned the Karnataka church attack on December 28.

While condemning the assault, Sangma singled out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that since the saffron party took office at the federal level and thereafter in other states, church vandalism has been a common occurrence.

”We have been saying on a regular basis that in different parts of the country, particularly in BJP-ruled states, this kind of vandalism on Churches and attacks on religious leaders and Church leaders are being reported. This is basically an indication that BJP has got its hidden agenda, and they are trying to fulfill it,” he said while speaking to media over the matter.

Notably, the infant Jesus statue at St. Mary’s Church in Mysuru’s Periyapatna, Karnataka was damaged on December 27.

Numerous police teams have been organised in the wake of the assault to find the suspect, who is apparently on the run.

Police are also reviewing the CCTV footage that was installed on the church’s property in order to identify the suspects.

A member of the said church’s staff noticed the damage at 6 PM on December 27 and immediately called the pastor.

As per the police, the assailants had broken the back door to enter the church.
