Meghalaya Tourism Minister Announces Timeline for Shillong Ropeway Project; Work to Commence by July
Northeast Desk, 9th May: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has revealed that tenders for the Shillong Ropeway Project will be opened after the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is lifted, with the aim to finalize the process by June 15th and award the work by July. This update marks a significant step forward in the implementation of the ambitious project, which is poised to enhance connectivity and promote tourism in the state.
The Shillong Ropeway Project, approved by the Meghalaya Cabinet in September 2022, is set to be the first passenger ropeway project in the state, connecting Lawsohtun to Shillong Peak at an estimated cost of Rs 138 crore. Minister Lyngdoh highlighted that while the expression of interest was floated earlier, a corrigendum is being issued to address certain aspects of the project that were not initially covered in the draft expression of interest.
Clarifying recent reports, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasized that the projects undertaken by the ARSS Infrastructure Projects Ltd. are being executed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), a central government agency. He underscored that the selection of the contractor was made by the central government agency and not by the state government, dispelling any misconceptions regarding the process.
The announcement regarding the timeline for the Shillong Ropeway Project signifies a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development efforts, underscoring the commitment of the government towards fostering growth and enhancing connectivity for the benefit of residents and tourists alike. As the project progresses, stakeholders eagerly anticipate its completion, which is poised to usher in a new era of transportation and tourism in Meghalaya.
