Meghalaya Tourism Minister Rejects Demand for CBI Probe into Missing Woman’s Case
Shillong: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has dismissed calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case of Sonam Raghuvanshi, an Indore woman who has gone missing. Her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead in a gorge on June 2. The minister emphasized that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the state is already conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
The demand for a CBI probe, supported by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has been met with disapproval from Meghalaya authorities. Lyngdoh stated that there is no relevance of a CBI investigation at this stage, as the SIT is already working on the case. He assured that the state will not shield any wrongdoers and will escalate the investigation further if needed.
The Meghalaya Police, assisted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), drones, and sniffer dogs, continue their intensive search for Sonam. The challenging weather and terrain have complicated the search efforts. The state government remains committed to resolving the case and ensuring justice.
The case has garnered nationwide attention, with Sonam’s family writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seeking his intervention. However, the Meghalaya authorities are confident in their ability to handle the investigation and maintain that the state remains a tourism-friendly destination.
