Meghalaya Tourism Unveils Autumn Calendar with High-Profile Events and Japan Partnership

Northeast, 15th August: Meghalaya’s tourism sector is set for a significant boost as the state government unveiled its autumn tourism calendar, featuring a series of high-profile cultural, literary, and musical events. The announcement was made during a conclave with local tourism stakeholders, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh.

A standout feature of the calendar is the official partnership with Japan for the upcoming Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, scheduled for November 15-16. This collaboration was inspired by a suggestion from the Japanese Ambassador, who visited the state last year and noted the striking similarity between Meghalaya’s cherry blossoms and those in Japan. The partnership will include a Japan Zone at the festival, offering visitors a chance to experience Japanese culture, from traditional arts to culinary delights.

Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh expressed excitement about this international collaboration, which is expected to elevate the festival’s profile and attract a larger audience. “The partnership with Japan adds a new dimension to our tourism offerings, and we are confident it will enhance the festival’s appeal,” said Lyngdoh.

In addition to the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, the autumn tourism calendar features several other major events:

  • Shillong Literary Festival: November 12-14
  • Me’gong Festival: November 29-30
  • The Hills Festival: December 6-7
  • Bryan Adams India Tour: December 10
  • Winter Tales: December 12-14

This diverse lineup of events is designed to cater to a wide range of interests and attract tourists from across India and beyond, providing a significant boost to Meghalaya’s tourism industry. The state government is optimistic that these initiatives will not only draw more visitors but also showcase the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya to the world.
