Meghalaya: Training Programme on Advanced Cashew Cultivation Held in Ampati

Ampati: A specialized training programme on improved cashew cultivation practices was successfully conducted at Circuit House, Ampati, equipping farmers with advanced techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability in the sector.

Organized by the Multi-Technology Testing Centre & Vocational Training Centre, College of Community Science, CAU, Imphal, and funded by ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, the event brought together 50 cashew farmers from four C&RD Blocks of South West Garo Hills District. The initiative aimed to introduce farmers to scientific methods and resource optimization strategies to improve yield and profitability.

Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak, attended as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr TN Ravi Prasad, Principal Scientist, Puttur, and Dr Jyoti V Vastrad, Dean of the College of Community Science, Tura. Officials from various departments were also present to extend their support.

During the session, technical bulletins detailing modern cultivation techniques were released to assist farmers in adopting best practices. Additionally, input supplies were distributed to participants to facilitate the adoption of advanced farming methods. Experts provided insights into soil management, pest control, and post-harvest processing, ensuring that farmers gained practical knowledge to enhance their cashew farming practices.

The initiative is expected to boost cashew production in Meghalaya, improving livelihoods and strengthening the state’s agricultural economy. By promoting scientific farming techniques and sustainable practices, the programme aims to position Meghalaya as a key contributor to India’s growing cashew industry.
