Meghalaya: Two Individuals Killed Following Anti-CAA Rally in East Khasi Hills District

Northeast Desk, 28th March: Authorities in East Khasi Hills district are investigating the deaths of two individuals allegedly targeted by unknown assailants in the aftermath of an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rally held by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and other NGOs at Ichamati.

According to police sources, the victims, who belonged to non-indigenous communities, were found deceased at Ichamati and Dalda.

Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu confirmed the fatalities, noting that further information is forthcoming pending ongoing investigations.

The situation remains tense, prompting the dispatch of additional security forces and directives for enhanced patrolling and peace meetings by Superintendents of Police the following day.

 District police chief Rituraj Ravi stated that post-mortem and inquest procedures are pending, with teams from local police stations and additional units from Shillong tasked with the investigation. Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
