Meghalaya: Two PDF MLAs To Officially Merge With NPP

National Desk, 5 May: National People’s Party (NPP) and the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) will unite on May 6, the PDF announced on May 5. The decision was made on May 5 during a General Council meeting.

”The two PDF MLAs will be officially merged with the National People’s Party (NPP) on Saturday,” said PDF President and Sohra MLA, Gavin Mylliem.

With this merger, the NPP will have 28 representatives in the 60-member Meghalaya Legislative Assembly putting them just 3 seats short of an absolute majority. Banteidor Lyngdoh (Mawkynrew) and Gavin M. Mylliem (Sohra) are the two MLAs for the PDF.

Prior to the May 10 election for the Sohiong assembly seat the PDF merger is viewed as a significant development. Just before the February 27 Assembly elections, the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Horju Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh a former minister and UDP leader passed away. As a result, the poll for the Sohiong assembly seat was postponed.
