Meghalaya Unveils ‘Mission Aman A’song’ for Land Governance Overhaul

In a significant stride towards modernising land administration, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today, June 20, launched ‘Mission Aman A’song,’ a pioneering initiative designed to transform land management and revenue processes within the Garo Hills region. The ambitious project, operating under the purview of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), aims to usher in a new era of transparency and efficiency in land governance.

A core component of ‘Mission Aman A’song’ involves the comprehensive survey, mapping, and digitisation of A’king land, which falls under the GHADC’s jurisdiction. This will be complemented by the meticulous mapping of privately owned lands, a crucial step intended to delineate clear boundaries and significantly mitigate land disputes.

Chief Minister Sangma lauded the GHADC for what he termed a “remarkable step,” emphasising its potential to safeguard land rights and foster improved land governance throughout the region.

This launch follows closely on the heels of another momentous event in Garo Hills. Yesterday, June 19, CM Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Additional Secretariat Complex in Tura. This substantial ₹156 crore undertaking marks a historic achievement for both the Garo Hills and the wider state, fulfilling a long-cherished aspiration to decentralise governance.

Once completed, the complex is set to ensure that a vast majority of government services become readily accessible directly in Tura, bringing administration closer to the citizenry.
