Meghalaya: VPP defends complaint to district council affairs department
Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has asserted its right to complain to the District Council Affairs Department regarding alleged restrictions on campaigning for the upcoming district council elections.
The party’s spokesperson, Batskhem Myrboh, questioned the Kynhun San Synjuk (KSS) members’ ability to vouch for each Rangbah Shnong in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, stating that the party needs documentation to prove otherwise.
The KSS, a conglomeration of traditional body heads, had criticized the VPP for lodging a complaint, terming it an “unhealthy” practice. However, Myrboh said that the party respects traditional institutions but is against those who abuse their authority.
The VPP alleged that several Rangbah Shnongs and Sordars in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills denied permission for election campaigns or imposed severe time restrictions, affecting the party’s outreach programs.
Myrboh stated that the party has the right to complain to the DCA Department and approach the High Court and Supreme Court for enforcement of their rights.
