Meghalaya: Young Voices of Garo Hills Shine Bright at Singing Competition
Ampati: The district of South West Garo Hills recently witnessed a vibrant display of musical talent as the grand finale of the ‘For the Youth of Our Generation’ singing competition concluded on December 5.
Organized by the district administration and tourism department, the event saw a diverse pool of 21 finalists who had emerged victorious from multiple audition rounds across the district. Held at the Multi-Facility Centre in Ampati, the competition was a celebration of youthful energy and cultural heritage.
The stage was set ablaze with performances by talented individuals, including students who traveled from Tura after their exams to participate in the event. The esteemed panel of judges, comprising renowned local artists and cultural experts, had the challenging task of selecting the best from the talented pool.
Bilsando Ch Marak was crowned the ultimate winner, while Crossmeda Arengh and Praidison D Marak secured the second and third positions, respectively. The Ampati Achik Cultural Society was awarded the ‘Best Costume’ prize, and consolation prizes were given to Haijest N Marak and Mima Gorin G Sangma.
Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak graced the occasion and presented the awards to the winners. In her address, she lauded the efforts of the organizers and participants, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young talent. She urged the youth to actively participate in such events and strive to excel in their chosen field.
“Meghalaya, once known as the music capital of India, can reclaim its title with the support and dedication of our talented youth,” she stated.
The successful conclusion of this singing competition marks a significant step towards fostering a vibrant music scene in Garo Hills and inspiring future generations of artists.
