Meghalaya’s First Passenger Ropeway Project to Begin Construction in October

Northeast Desk, 19th July: The long-awaited construction of Meghalaya’s first passenger ropeway project is set to begin in October, following approval by the state Cabinet in September 2022. Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh announced on July 18 that the government would issue a new corrigendum soon, and the project is expected to be completed within two years.

Initially scheduled to start in July, the project was postponed due to the monsoon season. In May, Minister Lyngdoh had stated that tenders for the Shillong Ropeway Project would be opened post-Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by June 15, with construction slated to commence in July.

The ropeway, which will run from Lawsohtun to Shillong Peak, has a budget of Rs 138 crore and marks a significant milestone in the state’s tourism infrastructure development.
