Meghalaya’s Mukroh Village Has Experienced Violence: Rymbui

Guwahati: The sensational firing incident which killed six persons, that recently shook the town of Mukroh, is a “part of Meghalaya.”

This was stated by Meghalaya home minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Sunday.

The home minister for Meghalaya Lahkmen Rymbui  made this remark in response to “Assam’s claim” regarding Mukroh village.

He added that Mukroh village is “integral to Meghalaya.”

According to Lahkmen Rymbui, there is no controversy over the location.

“Mukroh is fundamentally a part of Meghalaya. We won’t give them (Assam) even a fraction of our land, Lahkmen Rymbui stated.

He added: “Mukroh is far away from the disputed areas like Block and Block I.”

“No matter what rhetoric statements are being made by certain people and no matter what be their political agenda, our political agenda is to ensure peace along the inter-state border with Assam,” the Meghalaya home minister said.

He was likely making reference to Tuliram Ronghang, the chief executive member (CEM) of Assam’s Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council (KAADC) who claimed that Khasi-Pnars were “illegal squatters” in Mukroh village.

Rymbui said that Blocks I and II which are in Meghalaya but are under the “administrative jurisdiction” of Assam, adding that “These two blocks were moved to Assam for administrative convenience from the United Khasi and Jaintia Autonomous District Council decades ago.”

“Only after the transfer of these areas (Block I and II) that these became areas of differences between Meghalaya and Assam,” he said.
