Meghalaya’s NEHU Under Scrutiny: Central Committee to Probe Allegations
Shillong: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya is facing a critical juncture as a central committee, appointed by the Ministry of Education, is set to visit the campus to investigate allegations of mismanagement and administrative failures.
The decision comes amidst a prolonged protest by students who have been on a hunger strike for 15 days, demanding the resignation of key university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Prabha Shankar Shukla.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Nirmalendu Saha confirmed that the committee will assess the situation and take appropriate action once a detailed report is submitted. He further disclosed that a university-level committee, comprising representatives from the NEHU Teachers’ Association, Students’ Union, and other stakeholders, has been tasked with gathering relevant information for the central committee.
The university’s administrative turmoil has sparked widespread concern among students, faculty, and the public. As the central committee’s visit looms, the future of NEHU hangs in the balance.
