Meghalaya’s NPP Denies Association with Cash-Seized Vehicle in Arunachal Assembly Elections 2024
Northeast Desk, 5th April: The National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya has vehemently denied any association with a vehicle seized containing cash worth Rs 1 crore in Arunachal Pradesh, ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
The incident occurred on April 4, 2024, during the campaign visit of NPP National President, Conrad K. Sangma, to Longding, Arunachal Pradesh.
Despite allegations suggesting a vehicle trailing Sangma’s convoy was involved in the cash recovery incident, the NPP has refuted any involvement.
In an official press statement, the NPP clarified that the vehicle in question was not part of their convoy, a fact corroborated by the SP of the Longding area.
Furthermore, the party emphasized that their convoy, including Sangma’s vehicle, underwent standard security checks in accordance with election code of conduct protocols. These checks were conducted by the FST, SST, and police at Kanubari check gate, covering vehicles of the National President, National General Secretary, and accompanying team.
The NPP asserted its lack of awareness regarding the incident until it surfaced in the media. They deemed any attempt to link the incident with their National President as baseless and without merit, emphasizing their commitment to transparent and lawful electoral practices.
