Meghalaya’s Religious Leaders Unite in Solidarity Following Military Actions
Shillong– In a powerful display of national unity, religious leaders from across Meghalaya convened at Raj Bhavan today for a special interfaith meeting called by Governor C H Vijayashankar. The gathering aimed to express unwavering solidarity with national efforts in the wake of recent military actions targeting terrorist infrastructure.
The significant meeting witnessed the presence of esteemed representatives from diverse religious communities, including Hindu, Christian, Muslim, and various indigenous faith traditions. This unified front underscored a shared commitment to peace and a firm stance against terrorism in all its forms.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Vijayashankar emphasized the critical need for communal harmony during these challenging times. He vehemently condemned terrorism, both within India and across international borders, stressing the importance of shared values in overcoming such threats.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister participated in the meeting virtually from Delhi, underscoring the state government’s strong support for the initiative. Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, present at Raj Bhavan, urged attendees to offer prayers for the well-being and success of the armed forces.
Echoing this sentiment, Power Minister AT Mondal asserted that “Terrorism in any form does not have any place in the country.” Chief Secretary Donald Wahlang further reinforced the national priority, stating unequivocally, “It is the nation that comes first.”
As a mark of respect and remembrance, the participants observed two minutes of silence to honour the lives tragically lost in the recent attack in Pahalgam. The entire assembly unanimously voiced their strong support for the Indian military’s decisive actions against terrorist infrastructure situated across the border.
Notable attendees included Nabha Bhattacharya representing the Central Pooja Committee, Pastor Ellizer N Sangma from the Garo Baptist Church, Rev GPL Gadew of the Presbyterian Church, and representatives from the Seng Khasi, the Meghalaya Muslim Forum, Catholic communities, and numerous other faith-based organisations.
Concluding the meeting, Governor Vijayashankar reassured the attendees that all necessary measures were being diligently implemented to maintain peace and order within Meghalaya. He affirmed that India’s greatest strength lies in its rich diversity and deeply rooted democratic values, which serve as a beacon against the forces of division and violence.
