Meghalaya’s Youth Sparkle at Gangtok’s Regional Cultural Extravaganza

Gangtok, Sikkim – A vibrant delegation of 82 young artists and performers from Meghalaya has descended upon Gangtok, actively engaging in the 8th North East Youth Festival 2025, a four-day celebration of regional talent running from March 17th to 20th. The festival, a key platform for showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Northeast, has drawn participants from all corners of the region, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.

The Meghalaya contingent is a diverse mix, comprising 57 individuals hailing from the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, and 25 talented youngsters from the Garo Hills. They are showcasing their skills and creativity in a wide array of disciplines, including the harmonious strains of Group Folk Song, the rhythmic movements of Group Folk Dance, the intellectual challenges of the Quiz Competition, the electrifying energy of Rock Band performances, the dramatic interpretations of One-Act Plays, the intricate melodies of Solo Guitar, and the exhilarating tests of Adventure Activities.

The journey to Gangtok began with a rigorous selection process at the State-Level Youth Exchange Programme held in Shillong. Here, the most promising talents were identified, with the top two performers in each category earning the coveted opportunity to represent Meghalaya at the prestigious regional festival. This competitive selection underscores the high caliber of participants and the dedication of the youth to their respective art forms.

The North East Youth Festival serves as a vital conduit for nurturing young talent, strengthening the bonds of cultural exchange, and promoting a unified regional identity. By providing a stage for interaction and collaboration, the festival aims to empower young participants, offering them invaluable exposure and the chance to connect with peers from across the Northeast, thereby contributing to the vision of a progressive and self-reliant region.
