MFA Implements Mandatory Approval Rule for Private Football Tournaments in Meghalaya
SHILLONG — The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) has announced new regulations mandating that all private organisations obtain official approval before organising football tournaments in the state. The decision, aligned with directives from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), was taken during the MFA’s annual general meeting held on May 4.
The meeting, presided over by MFA President Hamletson Dohling and General Secretary Sunesh Syiem, brought together representatives from district football associations across Meghalaya. Under the revised policy, any private tournament involving professional players registered in the AIFF’s Centralised Registration System or those employing certified referees must receive prior clearance from the relevant district sports association affiliated with the MFA.
According to an MFA spokesperson, the move is intended to standardise football activities across the state and ensure tournaments are held within an officially recognised framework. “This measure ensures all football activities in Meghalaya follow proper structure and official sanctioning,” the spokesperson said, noting that the proposal was unanimously supported by the district bodies.
In addition to passing the new regulations, the MFA also presented financial and activity reports from the past year and outlined the calendar of events for the upcoming football season. The changes are expected to bring greater professionalism and coordination to football governance in Meghalaya.
