MHA Issues Directive Against Unauthorized Use of Air Raid Siren Sounds in Media
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a firm directive to all media organizations, instructing them to abstain from incorporating Civil Defence Air Raid Siren sounds into their broadcasts. This instruction, disseminated on Friday, aims to prevent unwarranted public anxiety and uphold operational protocols. The ministry has clarified that the use of these distinct auditory signals should be strictly limited to officially sanctioned community awareness campaigns and emergency drills. The advisory underscores the potential for misinterpretation and the disruption that could arise from the casual or dramatic deployment of these sounds in news reports or entertainment content.
BCAS Expands CISF Security Mandate to Include Cargo and Baggage Screening at Airports
In a concurrent development focused on bolstering the security of the nation’s aviation sector, the Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has announced a temporary expansion of the Central Industrial Security Force’s responsibilities at all civil airports. An Official Memorandum, dated May 9, 2025, outlines that the CISF Aviation Security Group will now encompass the security oversight of cargo operations and the management of the In-line Hold Baggage Screening System.
A representative from the CISF has confirmed the immediate implementation of this enhanced security framework across all airports under their jurisdiction. This represents a notable policy evolution, as the CISF’s established duties had not previously explicitly included the direct security screening of cargo and hold baggage systems. This augmentation of the CISF’s role is strategically designed to introduce supplementary security layers, thereby strengthening the overall resilience of India’s airport infrastructure against potential threats.
