MHA Warns: ULFA-I Becoming Active Again, Attacks May Carry Out

Guwahati: The proscribed terrorist organisation United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) is reactivating after a long hiatus, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

According to the MHA, the proscribed insurgent group planned large strikes on security forces and civilians.

Kidnappings have escalated in Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh as a result of the ULFA-I.

According to reports, “ULFA is planning large strikes on security forces and civilians, as well as intensifying its kidnapping spree,” the MHA statement said.

The banned outfit has also ramped up recruitment in the north-eastern states, mostly in Assam, but also in other areas of the country.

According to an intelligence assessment, the ULFA-I has initiated recruiting efforts in Delhi and the national capital region (NCR), with a focus on Assamese youths.

In the meantime, the new recruits are being sent to their training camp in Myanmar.

Meanwhile, the MHA has directed the national investigation agency (NIA) to launch an investigation into the situation.

It has instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to examine into the recruiting campaigns and intelligence reports of ULFA-I assaults on the horizon.
