Miao, Arunachal Pradesh Gears Up for Grand 42nd Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi in 2026
Miao, Changlang district, is abuzz with preparations as it secures the honour of hosting the 42nd Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi (SYMP) in 2026, marking a significant return to the very town where the inaugural Manau Poi was celebrated in 1985. A crucial high-level meeting recently convened at the proposed celebration site in Miao Singpho Village, primarily focusing on the urgent developmental needs for Manau Wang, the traditional ceremonial ground for the revered festival.
The meeting, presided over by Tai Khamti Singpho Council (TKSC) President Phup Yong Singpho, witnessed enthusiastic participation from various Singpho community leaders. They collectively expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to host this iconic cultural extravaganza. Following extensive deliberations, a unanimous resolution was passed to undertake the development of the Manau Wang on a war footing, aiming to replicate the resounding success of past editions.
To spearhead these efforts, a dedicated body, the Miao Shapawng Yawng Manau Wang Development Committee, has been formally constituted. World Kachin Congress Vice President Jowkhong Singpho has been appointed as its President, with Jawong Tingwa taking on the role of Working President. Smti. Pinna Singpho will serve as the General Secretary-cum-Convenor, ably supported by P. Kanmai as Assistant Secretary. Innao Gumrong has been named Treasurer, while Gumjanong Singpho will function as Chief Auditor, assisted by Thingnong Umbu, Chowmet Latho, and Nongpion Gumgi.
An esteemed advisory board has also been established, comprising prominent Singpho leaders. This board includes TKSC President PY Singpho, former MLA and N’khumsang Chief K.G. Singpho, Ningrang Chief Ningrangla Singpho, SDS President MN Singpho, SDS General Secretary Ongyun Maio, GB Smti. Khatop Ligai, GB Sinengam Singpho, and MSRH President Gamseng Singpho, all lending their experience and guidance.
To ensure a seamless execution of the development plans, the committee intends to initiate amicable dialogue with villagers whose land boundaries adjoin the proposed site. Additionally, the development committee will form dedicated steering units to accelerate crucial fundraising and donation drives, essential for the project’s success.
In a key decision, two experienced architects, Slg. Rajesh Gudung and Slg. Omiyo Ningda, have been unanimously entrusted with the monumental task of designing the concrete Manau Shadung. This structure is envisioned to be the largest and tallest permanent Shadung in the entire country, a testament to the community’s aspirations.
To kickstart the ambitious construction process, a substantial amount of ₹12.5 lakh was pledged during the meeting itself. Key contributors included SDS Vice President Pisi Suriya Singpho (Zauring) and Slg. Sikhang Zauing, who each generously offered ₹5 lakh as loans. Furthermore, Slg. Pisigam Singpho and SWO General Secretary Smti. Pinna Singpho contributed ₹1 lakh each, while SYO President Ligang Gumshong Mirip committed to donating ₹50,000 in early August, demonstrating strong community support.
As advised by Miao MLA and CM’s Advisor Kamlung Mossang, a detailed project report (DPR) encompassing all required infrastructure will be promptly submitted to the state government. This strategic move aims to secure early financial support from the government, crucial for the project’s timely completion.
The committee has extended a heartfelt appeal to Singpho nationals across all Khongs of India to extend financial help, either in the form of generous donations or refundable loans, to support this significant cultural undertaking. The committee has assured that comprehensive bank account details, QR codes, and contact information will soon be widely disseminated through various social media platforms to facilitate easy contributions from well-wishers.
