Mild Tremors Felt in Manipur and Meghalaya After Massive Earthquakes Strike Myanmar and Bangkok
Imphal: On March 28, two powerful earthquakes struck Myanmar and jolted Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, with mild tremors also felt in parts of northeastern India. The earthquakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.7 and 6.4, had their epicenter in central Myanmar, approximately 50 km east of Monywa.
In Manipur, the tremors hit at 1:29 pm, with a 4.3 magnitude earthquake centered in Imphal, where residents of Thangal Bazar, an area known for its old multi-storey buildings, were left shaken by the unexpected event. The quake, recorded at a depth of 10 km, had the coordinates Latitude: 24.96 N and Longitude: 94.69 E.
Meanwhile, in Meghalaya, the East Garo Hills region experienced a 4.0 magnitude earthquake at 1:03 pm. The tremor struck at a depth of 5 km, with coordinates Latitude: 25.57 N and Longitude: 90.58 E. While the earthquake caused brief panic in the region, no immediate damage or casualties have been reported.
Authorities in both states have assured the public that there is no significant damage following the tremors. However, the sudden jolt reminded residents of the ongoing seismic activity in the region.
