Militant Arrested, Major Hideout Unearthed in Manipur Operations
Imphal, Manipur – In a significant stride against the persistent insurgency plaguing Manipur, the state police have achieved a notable success with the apprehension of an active operative belonging to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group).
The arrested individual, identified as Waikhom Loveson Singh, aged 31 and a resident of Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak in the Imphal West district, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in extortion activities, a common tactic employed by insurgent groups in the region.
Simultaneously, in a coordinated effort to dismantle insurgent infrastructure, security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination exercises across the sensitive border regions and vulnerable pockets spanning both the hill and valley districts of Manipur.
These proactive measures culminated in a crucial discovery within the forested terrain of Heirok Part-III Uyok Ching, an area falling under the jurisdiction of the Heirok Police Station in Thoubal District. Here, security personnel successfully unearthed what is believed to be a significant hideout that has been utilized intermittently by armed insurgents operating in the area.
During the meticulous search of the suspected hideout location, security forces encountered hostile fire from individuals believed to be associated with the KCP (PWG). The attack was met with a swift and decisive response from the security personnel, who effectively repelled the militants.
Following the engagement, a thorough search of the area led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, tactical equipment, and essential logistical supplies, indicating the strategic importance of the location for the insurgent group.
The recovered items include one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) along with its magazine, a 12-bore single barrel gun, a significant quantity of 7.62 mm ammunition, tear smoke shells, stun shells, multiple sets of camouflage uniforms, bulletproof jackets, a stock of medical supplies, and several vehicles, including a Tata Safari and two Gypsy vehicles.
This significant seizure underscores the scale of operations being conducted by the insurgent groups and highlights the crucial impact of the security forces’ efforts in disrupting their activities and logistical capabilities in the state.
