Militant Attack Sparks Violence in Manipur’s Jiribam District
Northeast Desk, 8th June: Suspected militants carried out a series of attacks in Manipur’s Jiribam district during the midnight hours of June 7, setting fire to houses, police outposts, and forest beats. In response to the escalating situation, additional state forces were swiftly airlifted from Imphal to Jiribam on Saturday morning, according to police reports.
Armed militants targeted key establishments, including the Jirimuk Police Outpost, Jiri Mukh Forest Beat, and Chotobekra Police Check Post. Additionally, several houses in the areas of Lamtaikhunou, Loukoipung, Narayanpur, and Bungtangkhal fell victim to the arson, causing widespread disruption and fear among residents.
The incident, which occurred during the late hours and extended into the early morning, has deeply affected the local population. Displaced individuals, forced to flee their homes in search of safety, have strongly condemned the outbreak of violence in what was once considered a peaceful district. They emphasized the urgent need to strengthen security forces in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
