Ministry of Panchayati Raj Approves 400 New Panchayat Bhavans-Cum-CSCs for Arunachal Pradesh to Strengthen Border Governance and Service Access

Arunachal Pradesh: In an ambitious push to enhance governance and streamline service accessibility in India’s remote border regions, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has announced the approval for constructing 400 Panchayat Bhavans-cum-Common Service Centres (CSCs) across Arunachal Pradesh.

This initiative, under the ministry’s “Vibrant Villages” framework, aims to bridge developmental disparities and provide essential resources in some of the country’s most isolated areas.

The approval follows a recent meeting of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) on the revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, presided over by Panchayati Raj Ministry Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj.

Discussions emphasized the importance of resilient infrastructure to facilitate panchayat operations, especially for border communities, and to foster efficient service delivery.

“These Panchayat Bhavans will be designed as multipurpose resource hubs, bringing essential government services, digital access, and administrative support closer to the people,” a ministry representative stated. Besides offering a suite of government services, the centers will support local engagement and community programs, integrating remote communities with national initiatives.

Arunachal Pradesh is not alone in this infrastructure enhancement. Across the Northeast, similar projects are underway, with 1,633 new gram panchayat buildings and 514 CSCs set for development in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur. In Jammu & Kashmir, 970 gram panchayat bhavans and 1,606 CSCs are projected for completion by the close of the 2024-25 fiscal year, highlighting the government’s comprehensive commitment to supporting border and tribal regions.

Further expansions will see over 3,300 panchayat buildings with integrated CSCs across various states, while nearly 22,000 computers are set to be distributed nationwide to increase digital access and operational efficiency.

States including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Telangana are among the beneficiaries of these improvements.

The ministry is also working to improve training quality through infrastructure upgrades in state and district panchayat resource centers in 395 districts.

New standards for trainers’ honoraria have been implemented to ensure consistency and quality in training across the nation, targeting states like Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab, and West Bengal, which are amplifying their local governance training initiatives.

With this multi-state rollout, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is taking significant strides to strengthen local governance structures, support digital inclusion, and empower border and rural communities.
